We recently posted about how Facebook has now unveiled a new feature called Graph Search to allow users to sift through pictures, posts and messages.
With Graph Search, people can search the social graph by looking for things like “sushi restaurants that my friends have been to in Los Angeles ” or hotels near the Eiffel Tower”. If you have a Page on Facebook, Graph Search can make it easier for people to discover and learn more about your business.
Facebook Graph Search is rolling out to more users and could eventually become a fairly effective local search/recommendations engine, that’s why we’ve compiled a few tips to help you increase your exposure.
1. Select Business Categories
Don’t miss out on appearing in business categories. This will add context to your business and help your organization appear in categorical searches. Select appropriate business categories and up to three sub-categories.
2. Encourage Check-ins
If you do have a Place Page, you want to encourage check-ins. One of the benefits of Graph Search is that people can easily search by their friends who have been to your location. The number of check-ins are not always a factor in the ranking of search results, but the more people you have check into your place, the more likely you will come up in searches when people filter by their friends.
3. Claim Your Place
Anyone can create a Place for your business unless you “claim” that Place as your own, it may just be hanging out there in Facebook space without you getting the benefit of those check-ins. You want to make sure you claim your Place so you get credit for the check-ins to take advantage of the social proof and to come up higher in the searches
4. Work on the ‘About’ section
One of the ways to improve your SEO rankings on Facebook is to work on the ‘About’ section of your Facebook page. Watch the keywords that you use. You can use keywords that describe you as an individual or your business best. Ensure that the keywords you use match the users’ search terms.
5. Create Great Content
One of the ways to achieve instant success with Facebook’s Graph Search is to create great content. If your Facebook profile has quality content, it will automatically be ‘Liked’ and ‘Shared’ by many users. The more your content is ‘Liked’ and ‘Shared’ the higher you will be positioned on the result page of Graph Search.
